Everyone has an aim to be a leader in his/her lifetime, irrespective of the age. During my internship in Standard Chartered Bank Securities Services, I came to know the then head of the department Mr. Dutta. During my three months internship (rather I would say it as introduction to the corporate world), I have learnt so many things from him. He is a leader with different capacities. I remember his words “learning through mistakes” whenever he revealed big mistakes. Unlike so called interns or today’s corporate world, I received special treatment from the whole department just because he wanted us to be empowered, to take ownership of what we did; even if it was the smallest input. I used to have a separate email ID which I think is very rare now. I never felt that I was an intern during those 3 months. I have been serving at a local bank for around 3 years but I miss a leader like him. None can imagine a boss sparing his team mate for first 3 hours of a specific weekday for finishing her masters. I hardly saw him saying anything to an employee taking sick leave (usually managers “discourages” sick leave now). There were no vacancy on that time of my internship or else I would have tried my best to work under his leadership.
Mr. Dutta hails from a reputed family in Chadpur and very much well known in the securities market. He is pioneer to SWIFT and Non-Resident Investor’s Taka Account (NITA) in Bangladesh.
I still miss my internship and I miss being his team mate. I don’t know whether I will get any further opportunity to serve under his guidance but I would love to if I get any. He is indeed a human manager, not a robotic one.
